Inclusions
What's included in the price?
The price includes everything your fixed quote lists for that job. Typically that is:
- An engineer's review of your photos, plans or documents
- A site visit, where the quote says one is needed (Greater Hobart)
- The signed report, or the calculations and drawings for a design
- A Form 35 for designs that go to a building surveyor, or a Form 55 for an assessable item
- Stage inspections, where the quote lists them
If the scope changes, for example a soil test or a repair design is added, we quote the extra work before doing it.
Form 55 / as-built certification
An inspection of work already built and a Certificate of Qualified Person – Assessable Item for your building surveyor.
Cheapest isn't the whole story
A free inspection from a company that sells repairs costs nothing upfront, but the advice comes with something to sell. An independent engineer's fixed fee pays for a diagnosis and nothing else.
What changes a price
What changes the cost of a structural engineer?
The cost of a structural engineer changes with the size of the job, whether a site visit is needed, access, the purpose of the report and any testing or inspections. The starting price covers a straightforward job; these are the things that move a quote.
Size and complexity
More rooms, storeys, spans or walls take longer to inspect or design. Units and commercial buildings are quoted per project.
Site visit or desktop
Some jobs can be done from photos and plans. Others need an engineer on site, and the quote says which.
Access
Subfloors, roof spaces, steep blocks and tight sites add time on site.
Purpose of the report
A report for a builder dispute or TASCAT needs more detail and a set format, so tell us upfront.
Testing
A site classification, landslip report or deeper investigation may need boreholes or soil testing, quoted before it happens.
Inspections and certification
Designs that need stage inspections and sign-off include them in the quote, so you know the full fee.
