Website terms of use
The terms that apply when you use this website. Last updated 3 November 2026.
In short
This website gives general information about structural engineering and Tasmanian building rules. It is not engineering advice for your property. Advice only comes once you accept our written quote, and it is set out in the signed report, design or certificate we deliver. Prices on the website are starting prices; your quote sets the fee. Tasmanian law applies.
These terms apply to your use of hobartstructuralengineers.com.au, run by Hobart Structural Engineers (ABN [ABN]). By using the website you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the website.
Is the information on this website engineering advice?
No. The guides, prices, FAQs and other content on this website are general information about structural engineering and building rules in Tasmania. They don't take into account your property, your soil, your plans or your circumstances, so they are not engineering advice and you shouldn't rely on them as advice for a specific building or project.
We give engineering advice only once we are engaged in writing, by you accepting our quote, and only in the signed report, design, calculations or certificate we deliver for that job. Building rules and standards also change: for example, NCC 2022 applies in Tasmania until 30 April 2027 and NCC 2025 from 1 May 2027. Your building surveyor or council can confirm the rules that apply to your work.
We aim to keep the website accurate and up to date, but we don't promise that every page is complete, current or free of errors.
How do prices, quotes and engagement work?
- Website prices are starting prices. Prices on this website are "from" prices in Australian dollars, excluding GST. Some services are priced only by quote.
- Your fixed quote sets the fee. It states the fee, what's included, whether a site visit is needed and the delivery date. The quote is valid for the period stated in it.
- Payment terms are in your quote.
- Engagement starts when you accept the quote in writing. The quote, and any terms that come with it, govern the job. If they differ from these website terms, the quote and its terms apply to the job.
- Price changes. We may change the prices on this website at any time. A change doesn't affect a quote we have already given you while that quote is valid.
Who owns the reports and drawings you prepare?
We keep the copyright in the reports, drawings, calculations and certificates we prepare, and in the content of this website. When you engage us and pay for a job, you may use the documents we deliver for the purpose and the property they were prepared for, including giving copies to your building surveyor, council, builder, designer, insurer or lawyer.
Please don't use our documents for a different property or project, change them, or present them as someone else's work. A report or design is prepared for the client named on it; anyone else who relies on it does so at their own risk unless we agree otherwise in writing.
You may share links to this website and print pages for your own use. Please don't copy or republish its content without our permission.
What about the information and files I send?
When you send a form, photos, plans or other files, you confirm that the information is accurate as far as you know and that you have the right to share the files with us. We use them to quote for and carry out your job, as set out in our privacy policy. Please don't send anything unlawful, harmful or unrelated to your job.
Do you endorse the websites you link to?
No. Links to other websites, such as government pages, are there for convenience and open in a new tab. We don't control those websites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy or availability.
What is your liability for the website?
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that arises from using this website or relying on its general information, or from the website being unavailable, interrupted or affected by errors or harmful code.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded. Our responsibility for engineering services is set out in the quote and terms for that job, not in these website terms.
Which law applies?
These terms are governed by the law of Tasmania, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Tasmania.
Can these terms change, and how do I contact you?
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated. Questions about these terms: email info@hobartstructuralengineers.com.au or call 03 6146 4747 (Mon–Fri 8:00am–5:00pm).
